End Behavior of Functions

In a polynomial function the end behavior of the function is determined by the function's degree. If the function has an even degree both ends of the function will go in the same direction. If the function has an odd degree then the ends of the function will go in opposite directions. The correct way of explaining what is happening is to saw the graph is approaching infinity.

This says that as the graph approaches positive infinity in the y-axis as it does so in the x-axis as well.
It also says the graph approaches negative infinity in the y-axis as it approaches negative infinity in the x-axis
